Trevor Skempton

Trevor Skempton is an architect, artist and urban designer, based in North Wales and Liverpool. He has a wide experience of public sector work, including periods as Head of Architecture in Birmingham [1997-2000], City Architect in Newcastle [1990-1993] and Chief Architect in Barrow-in-Furness [1981-1987]. He has also worked for authorities in Scotland, Wales and Yorkshire, and in private practice in Liverpool.  He was Urban Design Consultant to Liverpool City Council from 2003 until 2009, with a particular focus on Liverpool One and other city centre projects.

Trevor lectures and writes on architecture, and has prepared a variety of international competition entries. His exhibitions, publications and commissions have included graphic art and illustration as well conventional architectural work and urban design.

From 2010 to 2020, he worked as a Commissioner (board member) of the Design Commission of Wales. He is also on the Council of the Merseyside Civic Society and is a Past President of the Liverpool Architectural Society.  In 2022, Trevor was awarded an honorary Doctorate by the University of Chester.
